Casio's New EX-S600D Gets DivX Certification
Have you ever had a digital camera that recorded videos in some obscure format that didn't play on anything except your 2" viewfinder? Casio and DivX must know the feeling because earlier today, DivX announced that they've granted certification to the Casio EX-S600D, a 6-megapixel camera that's due out in July in France and Germany. The S600D captures video in the widely popular DivX format, which is compatible with more than 1,500 different video-playing devices (DVD players, PMPs, etc). Here's the way DivX put it: "The CASIO EX-S600D camera allows consumers to easily access the valuable DivX ecosystem, an interconnected web of consumer electronics, software and content services that let users play, create and share high-quality video content across a range of devices and platforms."
With a high video quality, you'll be able to pack in about an hour of video on a 1 GB memory card. More info is at DivX.com

Meet the World's Smallest Digital Camera
Digital camera records are being smashed left and right. Earlier this week, the highest meapixel sensor was unveiled. Now we have the world's smallest digital camera sensor. At 2.1 x 2.3 mm, it's about 5 times smaller than a MicroSD card, or in other words about a fifth the size of your fingernail.Obviously the point of this device is for medical purposes (i.e. swallowing it so doctors can see what's going on inside you). The idea is to put it inside a pill and have the outer casing of the pill dissolve after you swallow it. Via Engadget

Acer CP-8660 Announced
The features it's boasting include anti-shake picture taking and a 2.8" LCD that Acer says is equipped with special technology that protects it from harmful effects of dust, etc. The CP-8660 also includes a fairly generous slate of built-in memory, a whole 25 MB worth. Additionally, there's an SD slot, apparently only supporting up to 1 GB SD cards. There's a video recording option as well, with videos of up to 640x480 pixels at 30 FPS. With PictBrige compatibility and a USB interface, it'll be easy to share your pics with your computer and other USB devices.
It's unknown at this point when this camera will be available, the spread of its availability, or how much it's going to cost.

Casio Exilim EX-Z70 Released Today
Like most Casio cameras, the Z70 supports SD and has 8.3 MB of internal memory. The zoom is not overly impressive, with just 3x optical and 4x digital. There's a 2.5" LCD viewing screen on the back of the unit, and the whole thing weighs 118 grams.
As is becoming the norm in digital cameras, the Z70 features "anti shake", which ensures a steady picture even when your hands are shaking. I seem to have a spontaneous arm spasm that goes off whenever I click a shutter button, so this feature is a must for me. Dimensions for this camera are 95.2 mm (W) × 60.6 mm (H) × 19.8 mm (D).

More Megapixels Than You Can Shake a Stick At
In an interesting Jeckyll/Hyde type of dichotomy, the technologically advanced camera has some seemingly ancient features to it. For starters, it only has a 8x digital zoom and apparently no optical zoom. Also, it's powered by AAA batteries instead of Li-on. I guess that's the trade-off for the unprecedented megapixel specification. The camera has the standard 32 MB of internal memory, and although our source says there's no expansion slot, Han Shing's site says it supports SD cards.
We're not sure how much this costs, or its street availability, but this is certainly a camera to keep an eye out for.

Google's Picasa Web Albums Open For Business
Google today launched their new online photo sharing software, Picasa Web Albums.Designed specificially for Google's Picasa photo editing software that launched in 2004, this new service allows you to actually share your photos through Google, instead of similar sites like flickr.
You get 250 MB of space for free, which pretty much blows the competition out of the water. Also, you can buy an additional 6 GB for a yearly fee of $25, making Picasa Web Albums just about the only Google service that you may end up paying for.
Right now, it's available by invite only (all you have to do is enter your Gmail address and you'll get an invite), on a first-come first-served basis. Go to picasaweb.google.com to get a PWA account.

Fujifilm FinePix F30 Review
Cnet's Philip Ryan recently reviewed the Fujifilm FinePix F30 digital camera. He gave the camera a 7.4/10 rating.
Quote: ''The F30's features are pretty humdrum. For example, it includes a 6-megapixel CCD sensor, a 3X optical zoom lens, and a 2.5-inch LCD screen. Nonauto shooters will be pleased to see the camera's shutter and aperture priority modes, while fans of the automatic will gravitate toward its moderate selection of scene presets or just use its full auto mode.''

Casio EXILIM EX-Z850 Review
LetsGoDigital reviews the Casio Exilim EX-Z850.Quote:
" Casio are putting in serious work to achieve a larger market share. Now, we all know this can prove tricky if one's product assortment does not meet the consumer demand - but for Casio, there are no such issues.
Cameras like the Casio Exilim EX Z850 more than deserve market share, simply because they are worth it. The image quality is outstanding, and the speed with which the images are processed, as well as the speed of the camera actions, really is striking. "

Olympus SP 500 UZ Review
LetsGoDigital reviews the Olympus SP 500 UZ.Quote:
" By the end of the trial period, the Olympus SP-500 UZ had made a mixed impression on me. The image quality and functionality was convincing enough, but it is just a fact that the specifications of contemporary Megazoom cameras are more extensive than ever.
The Olympus SP-500 UZ misses several features found elsewhere, the worst being the lack of an optical image stabilizer. "
