DPReview Check out the Olympus SP-560UZ

olympussp560uz1.jpgDPReview has posted a new review of the Olympus SP-560UZ digital camera. The camera has 8MP and a massive 18x optical zoom. Dual image stabilization and ISO settings of up to ISO 6400 are possible. Other features include RAW mode and face detection.

Pros for the camera include huge zoom range, lots of features, RAW mode, and good detail on images. Cons for the camera include some gimmicky features, limited battery life, and focus hunting in low light.

The verdict is that the camera is really no better than its rivals are. DPReview says that it is cautiously recommended rather than wholehearted. The camera ears the DPReview recommended award.

Olympus FE-300 Reviewed

olympusfe300.jpgCNET reviewed the Olympus FE-300 digital camera and rated is 6.4 out of 10. That breaks down to a good rating on the CNET scale. The camera features a 12MP sensor and has a 3x optical zoom. The camera is 0.9-inch thick and weighs only 4.9 ounces with the weird xD memory card.

CNET says the good points are that the camera is slim and light, and the perfect shot preview is handy. That is one short list of pros for sure. The bad points were performance and poor picture quality especially at high ISO.

The verdict is that while the camera is inexpensive, the pictures aren’t as good as the price. I would think if the pictures and performance were that bad, it would have scored worse. The camera also lacks manual exposure controls.

Olympus' New 18x Zoom SP-560UZ

olympussp560uz.jpgOlympus announced a new camera recently that is exactly what photographers looking to get real close to the action needs. The SP-560UZ has a monster 18x optical zoom, making it one of the biggest zoom cameras around.

Of course, at 18 x magnification, your shots will be blurry, but Olympus adds in image stabilization to help prevent that from happening. The camera has a 2.5” LCD and can go as high as ISO 3200.

While there is no official word on the price of the camera at this time, since it is a point-and-shoot a good guess would be in the $500 range. The camera uses an 8-megapixel sensor.

Olympus FE-200

The Olympus FE-200 stands out in its line of “easy and fun” FE digital cameras.  The 6 megapixel camera has a wide range angle (28mm), 5x optical zoom lens and a 2.5 inch LCD.  Its stockier frame (thicker than the FE-190) accommodates the larger lens on this model.

Though it can handle a wider angle than most of its competition, this digicam operates pretty sluggishly. Start up time is also lethargic, along with navigating the menu and scanning images.  The FE-200 ranges anywhere from $179 TO $250.

The Olympus Stylus 750

The new Olympus Stylus 750 Digital Camera is quite impressive for a compact camera with its 7.1 megapixel CCD, 5x optical zoom, and Dual Image stabilization and Digital Image stabilization to reduce the chance of blur even for your most challenging shots.

The Stylus 750 is the thinnest camera in its class to have a 5x optical zoom which is great for amazing close ups without the need to carry a huge digital SLR everywhere you go. The pocket camera is weatherproof so is perfect for days on the beach, on the ski slopes, or that rainy soccer game.

This camera also features a 2.5" LCD display and shutter speed of up to 4 seconds in Night Scene mode. The camera also has an internal memory of 17MB so you will probably be needing that extra xD-Picture Card. One downside to this camera is there is no way to manually set the exposure, but for casual shooters this may not be a big issue. So if you're looking for a high class compact camera with similar picture quality to a DSLR then this camera is for you.

Olympus FE-170

Olympus has come out with a new ultra-compact digital camera that is recommended for first time photographers and is part of their Fun & Easy series. The new FE-170 is a 6 megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom and a 2.5" LCD screen.

The camera features a "one button, one function" design as well as simple menu setup that is easy to navigate for new digital camera users. The FE-170 also comes with 10 scene modes for capturing sports, self-portraits, night shots (including fireworks) to name a few. The camera also has a feature that makes shooting close ups easy for beginners called "super-macro".

Because of its terrible performance and mediocre shots, the Olympus FE-170 really isn't worth your time or money. If you really want an inexpensive, easy-to-use snapshot camera, spend the extra $30 and upgrade up to the FE-180. It has all of the good qualities of the FE-170 along with some nicer ones such as rechargeable batteries and a wall charger.

The Olympus E-400 Reviewed

Olympus E-400 LetsGoDigital has reviewed the new Olympus E-400, their answer to their rivals 10 megapixel cameras.

Quote: "The new Olympus E-400 is equipped with a newly designed CCD with 10.0 million effective pixels. This instantly puts Olympus in the same group of digital SLR cameras as the Nikon D80 and the Canon EOS 400, which each have the same amount of Megapixels. To provide increased flexibility, the Olympus E-400 features 2 card slots; one for the xD Picture flash memory card and one for CompactFlash type I & II and Microdrive. One could wonder if support of Secure Digital would not have been more logical."

Olympus SP 500 UZ Review

Olympus SP 500 UZ Review Digital Camera future gadget Future Technology News technology Review LetsGoDigital reviews the Olympus SP 500 UZ.

Quote:
" By the end of the trial period, the Olympus SP-500 UZ had made a mixed impression on me. The image quality and functionality was convincing enough, but it is just a fact that the specifications of contemporary Megazoom cameras are more extensive than ever.
The Olympus SP-500 UZ misses several features found elsewhere, the worst being the lack of an optical image stabilizer. "
